Endodontic Treatment
What is Endodontics
Endodontics is a branch of dentistry dealing with treatment of the dental pulp or root nerves. Root canal therapy is one of the most common endodontic procedures. If the dental pulp containing the nerves becomes dead, diseased or injured, endodontic treatment is required to save the tooth that might otherwise require extraction. The presence of the teeth helps to maintain the overall structure of the jaw and stop undesirable movement of the teeth. If not treated, it leads to severe tooth pain, which is usually felt during biting, chewing or drinking hot and cold drinks. Root canal treatment may not be recommended if the tooth has a poor prognosis and cannot be restored. Post treatment, the tooth may have to be capped or crowned to avoid chipping, cracking or fracture.
